NZ student visas

Education is New Zealand’s the fourth largest export industry. The New Zealand government’s education policies, and the institutions that implement the policies, are well established, reliable and independently monitored. Schools, universities, technical institutes and trades training establishments are all recruiting students from overseas.

Deson caters for two categories of student visa applications:

1

Deson can provide or facilitate students intending to come to New Zealand to study with:

  • Assistance to choose a teaching institution, and a suitable course to follow or qualification to gain.
    To enable students to pursue a career or reach the educational goals they have set themselves;

    Assistance with the preparation of application for a student visa from Immigration New Zealand offshore branches.– This can be frustrating and problematic experience without professional advice;
  • Pastoral care and follow-up service after arrival.
    Knowing that that their children have adequate support while living and studying in New Zealand which will provide a safe study environment for the students, and peace-of-mind for parents;
  • Regular contact and liaison with the teaching institution of choice.
    It is extremely important for students and their parents to know how they are progressing with their studies and with their integration into New Zealand society. Problems that are identified and addressed early are problems that can be solved.

2

Deson can help students who are already in New Zealand with:

  • Student visa extension; in many cases the original visa will require extension or modification of conditions to allow for changing circumstances;
  • Study course modification; it is common for students to realise that their initial preference was misplaced or has changed, both with regard to their course and to the institution. Extensive negotiations are often necessary and we have the contacts are experienced in achieving a favourable outcome.

Deson have been working very closely with the principal of International Student Education New Zealand (ISENZ) for student enrollment and pastoral care service, and we have found that all our student clients have benefited from the expertise and experience of the principal of ISENZ within the education industry.

Skilled migration category residence visa (SMC)

Immigration New Zealand adopts a ‘points system’ to assess a potential migrant’s eligibility under SMC to be invited to apply for residence. Points are awarded for age, work experience, employability, and qualifications.

This has been one of most popular pathways towards New Zealand residence, and the major requirements are:

  • to have a skilled employment or job offer in New Zealand;
  • to be able to meet English language requirements through the various alternative ways;

Of course the applicant will need to meet age (55 or under), health and character requirements.

As a basic rule under the current circumstance, if you have got a skilled employment job offer in New Zealand, you will have sufficient points to be invited to apply. This means that you will not have enough points without skilled employment or job offer, no matter what sort of points you can attract from other factors, such as qualifications, work experience, or your partner’s qualification.

SMC residence is suitable for the following people

  • those who are tertiary graduates
  • those who have been working in New Zealand for a number of years on a skilled employment visa, such as chef, baker, builder, carpenter, tiler and tradespeople; or
  • who have got tertiary qualifications from the countries where English is the medium of education instruction, and have got the potential to be employed or offered a job by a prospective employer in New Zealand.

Work to residence visa

Work to residence is initially a temporary work visa granted under Long Term Skill Shortage List (LTSSL) for 30 months which can lead to New Zealand permanent residence without any English language requirement after working on this visa for at least 24 months.

The attractiveness and major advantage of this visa type is that it has no English language requirement, in contrast to SMC which does.

Business residence visas

The New Zealand government first introduced a business migration policy in 1998. There were three categories of residence visa: Investor, Long Term Business and Entrepreneur.

Dr Gong was a pioneer in business migration and helped many Chinese applicants come to New Zealand to establish a successful business, gain residence, and eventually become citizens.

In 2002, the introduction of a stringent English language requirement excluded many Chinese business applicants, but by this time Deson had built up a unique expertise in all aspects of business in New Zealand. In particular, Dr Gong had gained a reputation for an outstanding success rate, for timeliness, for thoroughness, and for a unique understanding of the complex rules and procedures involved in business migration. Many applicants have benefited from Dr Gong’s experience and his updated skills and knowledge of business migration.
